HISTORY

The history of SVRC Industries, the driving force behind SVRC Marketplace, is a testament to its community-minded journey. Rooted in a grassroots movement, SVRC Industries was established in 1962 by parents dedicated to creating meaningful work opportunities for their children with disabilities. What began in a humble garage evolved into the Saginaw Valley Rehabilitation Center (SVRC), a pivotal entity that gained legal recognition in December of that year.

Throughout its evolution, SVRC Industries continually expanded its scope and impact. In 1968, SVRC found a home in a section of the Lufkin Rule Co. at 1730 Hess. Over the years, the organization persisted in its mission, and in 1982, groundbreaking commenced for a new facility at 919 Veterans Memorial Pkwy, which was completed the following year.

SVRC Industries' commitment to its community extended beyond vocational services. SVRC Industries was also involved in prisoner re-entry initiatives and acquired the Westlund Child Guidance Clinic, located on the 3rd floor of the SVRC Marketplace building, fortifying its commitment to the well-being of the community.

In 2018, a pivotal moment arrived with the opening of the SVRC Marketplace in downtown Saginaw. Enabled by collaboration, investment, and the tireless efforts of SVRC Industries and its foundation, the marketplace breathed new life into the heart of the city.

Throughout its history, SVRC Industries has undergone transformative change, exemplifying dedication to its mission and the betterment of lives. Today, SVRC Marketplace stands as a testament to this journey, where local entrepreneurship and global flavors converge, echoing the organization's unwavering commitment to community integration, empowerment, and innovation.
